Israeli President Reuven Rivlin has defended the airstrikes against Hamas operatives in Gaza, saying that “we are fighting terror with our operations in Gaza.” President Rivlin continued in a statement released on Sunday, saying that “Hamas is using civilians as human shields, and is using Gaza’s children as cannon fodder against our citizens and soldiers. We must fight this terror, and we must fight it with determination and clarity, through all legal means in our power.” He added that Israeli citizens “deserve a safe life with security and dignity.” President Rivlin’s statements come as the Israeli military continues to conduct airstrikes in Gaza in response to rocket fire from Hamas militants.
