According to a probe by U.S. security company Area 1, Vietnam-backed hackers have been targeting U.S. officials, current and former, with posts on popular social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. The hackers reportedly created profiles with similar names to the victims, or faked U.S. government profiles to post malicious links or malware. The malware attempts to steal the victims’ identities, sensitive data, and documents. Furthermore, Area 1 claims that the hackers have also targeted CNN journalists as well.
