Vice President Kamala Harris dismissed former President Donald Trump’s comments that he’s a ‘protector’ of women in a press conference yesterday. Trump had made the statement during a recent GOP event in North Carolina, claiming his policies were always in favor of women, despite leaving office with a majority of women disapproving of his job performance.
Harris in her rebuke to these statements said that Trump’s claim contradicts his past actions, including his efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and policies that disproportionately affected women’s healthcare, as well as accusations of sexual misconduct from over 20 women.
She said, If you look at his track record, what he says does not match what he does. The Vice President highlighted various instances where Trump’s actions and policies had negatively impacted women, such as his attacks on reproductive rights and efforts to block legislation aimed at curbing violence against women.
Harris, who has been tasked with leading the Biden Administration’s efforts to promote gender equality within the American and global workforce, concluded her remarks by saying that the administration’s focus is on making sure that women have the same opportunities as men. We’re looking at pay equality, we’re looking at access to opportunity, and we’re certainly looking at women’s health, she said.
