Senator Chuck Schumer criticized the Republican party for what he termed as ‘wasting time’, even as a tentative funding deal was announced. The Democrat senator urged his Republican counterparts to be more productive and focused instead of stalling the process.
This calling out is a result of the ongoing impasse between Democrats and Republicans over government funding. There are disagreements on various issues including infrastructure, social spending and debt ceiling that are yet to be resolved.
The tentative deal which has been announced recently, is expected to fund the government temporarily until 18th February 2022. It is the result of intense negotiations between Democrats and Republicans over the past few weeks, and the goal is to avoid a government shutdown.
Despite the announcement of this stopgap measure, Schumer insisted that there’s much more work to be done and called out Republicans for wasting valuable time leading up to the agreement. He said, In the midst of a pandemic, an economic crisis, and in the face of pressing deadlines, our Republican colleagues have chosen to waste valuable time.
The senator’s call out is reflective of the Democrats’ frustration over the slow pace of discussions on crucial matters.
