Donald Trump has once again requested the New York federal court to take over his hush money case. The former President has been entangled in a legal dispute regarding the alleged payments made prior to the 2016 election to keep quiet allegations of his extra-marital affairs. The key figure involved in aiding these payments was Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer.
The case was earlier overseen by the Manhattan District Attorney, however, Trump and his legal team are trying to get it handled by the federal court – a move that many believe may be more favorable for them considering the more conservative leaning nature of the federal court. Trump’s team is arguing that the payments were a personal matter and should not be viewed as campaign finance violations.
The Judge is yet to make a decision regarding this request. This case has been one of many legal challenges that Trump has faced since leaving office. The outcome may have significant consequences not only for Trump, but for how similar situations may be dealt with legally in the future.
