A new poll suggests that most Americans do not support the push by President Biden and Democrats to make changes to the Supreme Court. According to this poll, the majority of U.S. adults are against Democrats’ proposals to expand the size of the Supreme Court or implement term limits for justices.
The survey, conducted by an unnamed polling firm, indicates that 63% of adults in the U.S. are against increasing the number of justices on the Supreme Court (also known as court packing). Meanwhile, 57% oppose term limits for Supreme Court justices.
Despite the fact that the Supreme Court is currently made up of a majority of conservative justices, the poll numbers do not seem to suggest a large scale desire for changes to the court from the general public. In general, it appears that Americans have more faith in the current structure of the Supreme Court than the changes proposed.
As comes with any poll, it’s essential to consider potential biases, the wording of questions, and the sample size and demographics. However, if the survey is a representative snapshot, it shows a lack of public support for the changes proposed by the Democrats. The Supreme Court has long been regarded as a nonpartisan institution, and these poll results may reflect a desire to maintain that perception.
