According to a check on Joe Biden’s claim, the current US President has repeatedly stated that he traveled 17,000 miles with China’s president, Xi Jinping. Biden’s claim was made on several occassions insinuating that he spent a lot of time with Jinping while serving as Vice President under Barack Obama administration. But records suggest that the number Biden references is much likely an exaggeration or a miscommunication.
In their official capacity, Biden and Jinping did spend a significant amount of time together during several meetings and state visits but the statement of 17,000 miles traveled together seems to be factually incorrect. Some records show that the two leaders’ trips together don’t add up to the 17,000 miles. The claim has been debunked by several fact-checking organizations and media outlets. Biden may not have intended to mislead, but it appears his recollection of his travels with Jinping do not align with the known facts.
