Bitcoin ATM users in Argentina have now been given the option to use the Lightning Network (LN), a layer two payment protocol offering instant and low-cost transactions.
The news was announced by Clive Boulton, a British entrepreneur based in Argentina, on Twitter. Boulton said that one of the existing machines had been modified to allow deposits and withdrawals via the Lightning Network. He added that the machine was located in the city of Mendoza, in western Argentina.
The modified Bitcoin ATM is owned and operated by EasyBit, a Bitcoin ATM provider with machines in various parts of the world. EasyBit recently began offering Lightning Network services to its clients and it appears that Argentina is the first country to have its own LN-enabled machines.
This is another positive development for Bitcoin users in the country. After the devaluation of the Argentinian peso, many Argentinians have turned to Bitcoin as a store of value and as a way to send remittances overseas. With Lightning Network now available, users in the country will have a much faster and cheaper way to transact in Bitcoin.
