While the outcome of elections in 2024 will still primarily be determined by who votes, we should also expect nonvoters to have a significant role in shaping the political landscape. Nonvoters, especially young people, will continue to shape public opinion and potentially influence voter and candidate preferences. Additionally, nonvoters – many of whom are people of color and low-income citizens – will continue to create pressure for governments to address issues they care about, which in turn may influence electoral outcomes.
