Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has thrown her support behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, hitting back at President Donald Trump after he suggested she should primary her.
“The people of Iowa have put their trust in me for the last four years and I haven’t let them down,” Reynolds said in a statement. “It’s not up to anyone but the people of Iowa to decide the leader they want to represent them.”
Reynolds went on to praise DeSantis, calling him “a friend and a strong leader who puts doing what’s right before all else.”
Reynolds comments come after Trump suggested she should consider launching a challenge to Old Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in 2022. Trump tweeted that DeSantis had “done a great job” and he “should start looking at the 2022 Senate race.”
Reynolds, who is term limited, has not yet indicated if she will run to replace Senator Chuck Grassley, who is up for re-election in 2022.
