Russia is a longtime supporter of the Palestinian cause and condemns Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories. The Kremlin has been a vocal opponent of Israel’s actions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and has recently accused Israel of using “disproportionate force” and of being an “occupying power” that does not have the right to self-defense. Russia also provides material and financial support to the Hamas government in the Gaza Strip and often sides with it in disputes with Israel.
