In response to a statement made by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) condemning a pro-Hamas post on Coca-Cola’s Twitter account, Coca-Cola has quietly deleted language on its website that expressed support for the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.
The company’s official website had previously declared that “racism and violence are intolerable and have no place in our society” and expressed solidarity with those fighting for “justice and equity.” After Senator Cruz called out Coca-Cola for its support of a group “committed to the destruction of [the] Jewish state,” the company removed such language from its website.
Coca-Cola has yet to make any public statement explaining why it deleted the language. However, it is clear that the company does not want to risk losing business from customers who would be offended by its support of the BLM movement. It is also likely that the company was pressured to make the change in order to avoid further bad publicity following the backlash to its pro-Hamas post.
