Former U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan has floated the idea of removing Congressman Matt Gaetz from the House Republican caucus and from his committees if he is still in office when the case against him is resolved. The Justice Department is investigating accusations that Gaetz had sexual contact with a minor and other crimes. Speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Ryan said that “if he’s still a member of Congress, I would think that should be looked at [by GOP leaders]. The credibly alleged actions that are out there are just disgusting and horrifying.” If removed from the House GOP caucus and committees, Gaetz would continue to serve in the House, but he would not have the power to vote on legislation or committee assignments.
