John Peltola, the husband of Alaska State Representative Mary Peltola, died on July 20th 2020, when the plane he was flying crashed near the community of Eagle, Alaska. Mr. Peltola was a respected flight instructor and commercial pilot, and had recently returned to Alaska to take a position as Chief Pilot for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District. Representative Mary Peltola released a statement expressing her grief over John’s death. She said, “John was an amazing person, a loving husband, father, and friend. We are deeply saddened by his loss, but also grateful for his commitment to others and for sharing his joy of life with those around him.”
