Walgreens Boots Alliance announced on Monday, April 5th, 2021, that CEO Roz Brewer has stepped down after more than two years in the role. Walgreens board of directors Chairman Stefano Pessina will serve as executive chairman and acting CEO.
Brewer was appointed CEO of Walgreens in October 2018 and in that time she drove advancement in the company’s digital capabilities, messaging and customer experience. Brewer also oversaw Walgreens launching of largest-ever vaccination campaign in early 2021.
Prior to serving as CEO, Brewer held the roles of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer of Starbucks. She also spent 20 years at The Coca-Cola Company.
Pessina thanked Brewer for her contributions to Walgreens including accelerating the digital transformation, driving stronger connections to customers and emerging as one of the most visible leaders in retail healthcare.
