On May 13, 2021, United States District Court Judge Amit P. Mehta of the District of Columbia found White House adviser Peter Navarro guilty of civil contempt for refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena as part of the January 6th Congressional Commission into the Capitol insurrection. Navarro refused to be deposed or provide documents to the commission despite receiving a congressional subpoena in January. His effort to quash the subpoena was denied by Mehta, who ruled that Navarro failed to demonstrate that his testimony was immune from congressional inquiry. Navarro has been held in contempt for not complying with the subpoena and has been ordered to pay an unspecified fine for that violation.
