The arrests continue in connection with the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, with prosecutors announcing the fifth man charged in the attack on Officer Michael Fanone. The man, Jeffrey Sabol, is accused of assaulting Fanone while he was trying to defend the building from the mob. Sabol is believed to have been among those who surrounded Fanone and allegedly punched him multiple times. He also allegedly ripped off Fanone’s radio and badge before trying to drag a police shield away from him. According to the indictment, Sabol also yelled at Fanone, “Go HAM, go HAM, shoot your fucking gun.” Fanone, who suffered a heart attack and a traumatic brain injury in the attack, has since described his attackers as the “visual representation of evil.” If convicted, Sabol faces up to 20 years in prison.
