On June 19th, 2019, U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer called systemic mastocytosis. He is undergoing additional testing to determine a course of treatment and he is continuing to work in Congress. Scalise’s medical team expects that the treatment will be manageable for the Congressman.
