Connecticut Democrat Lawmaker’s DUI Arrest Caught on Camera
Connecticut State Representative, Brandon McGee, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) on Sunday, May 23rd. The arrest was caught on camera by a bystander and has since gone viral on social media.
The video shows McGee being pulled over by police in Hartford, Connecticut. The officer can be heard asking McGee if he had been drinking, to which he responds, “Yes, I had a couple of drinks.” McGee then proceeds to fail a field sobriety test and is placed under arrest.
McGee, who represents the 5th District in Hartford, has since released a statement apologizing for his actions. “I want to apologize to my constituents, my colleagues, and my family for my poor judgment and behavior,” he said. “I take full responsibility for my actions and will work to regain the trust of those I have let down.”
This is not the first time McGee has been in trouble with the law. In 2012, he was arrested for driving with a suspended license and in 2014, he was charged with breach of peace after a fight broke out at a Hartford nightclub.
McGee’s arrest has sparked controversy among his constituents and fellow lawmakers. Some are calling for his resignation, while others are urging him to seek help for his alcohol addiction.
Connecticut Governor, Ned Lamont, released a statement condemning McGee’s actions. “Driving under the influence is a serious offense that puts lives at risk,” he said. “Representative McGee’s behavior is unacceptable and he must be held accountable for his actions.”
McGee is scheduled to appear in court on June 7th to face charges of DUI. If convicted, he could face fines, license suspension, and even jail time.
This incident serves as a reminder that lawmakers are not above the law and must be held accountable for their actions. It also highlights the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of making responsible choices when it comes to alcohol consumption.
